MRT Castings' MD Phil Rawnson in Make UK's 130 Honours List

Manufacturers’ organisation Make UK has named our Managing Director Phil Rawnson in its 130 Honours list.
The list recognises key individuals whose “achievements, innovation, influence and leadership are helping shape the future of UK manufacturing.”
Phil was named for leading MRT in its “innovation, investment and resilience” – enabling us to “deliver critical components when they are needed most.”
Make UK launched the honours to help celebrate its 130th anniversary.
A Make UK spokesperson said: “Selected from across UK manufacturing, the 130 span a diverse range of sectors, regions and roles. They come from businesses of all sizes, from SMEs to larger manufacturers, as well as the wider supply chain.
“From pioneering new technologies and transforming production, to championing skills, sustainability and innovation, their achievements are helping build our industry’s future.”
Phil said: “I’m very proud to have been recognised by Make UK alongside 129 other passionate advocates of UK manufacturing.
“Thanks go to the whole MRT team for putting in the hard graft, and to our amazing customers and supplier partners who we work alongside every day to develop and produce castings and machined components which we hope embody the innovation and technical excellence that are what UK manufacturing is all about.”
Our highly advanced foundry specialises in casting complex, tightly toleranced or cosmetically critical aluminium parts for sectors including aerospace, defence, medical, automotive, electronics, marine, rail and lighting.
Next year our company will celebrate its 80th anniversary – highlighting our decades of experience at the forefront of die casting excellence.
We use advanced solidification simulation software and design for manufacture expertise to enhance quality and consistency, reduce costs and shorten lead times.
High-quality aluminium sourced from UK and European smelters is subject to full chemical analysis before it reaches the furnace.
We run six high pressure die casting cells with locking forces from 220 to 530 tonnes. Every cell has computerised real-time shot control that monitors and adjusts injection, cooling and ejection.
Automatic ladling, die spray and casting extraction remove operator variation from the steps that most influence repeatability. Our resources also include seven hydraulic trimming presses (5-25 tonnes).
We also produce gravity die castings, utilising four microprocessor-controlled hydraulically operated cells, alongside several manual casting stations.
Batch-specific analysis using our in-house spectrometer gives your quality team documented evidence of the composition behind the parts they receive.
And our in-house machining, finishing and assembly facilities enable us to offer the complete solution.
