Environment, Health & Safety
MRT place a high priority on our environmental responsibilities, and strongly believe that we must work in partnership with our suppliers, customers and employees to minimise our combined impact on the environment and our global natural resources. We operate a policy of continual improvement to provide a safe and comfortable working environment for our team, minimise waste in our processes, operate in the most efficient ways, and work with our customers to reduce the impact of logistics. We are pro-active in our compliance with all applicable environmental and health & safety regulations.
MRT's Environmental Management Systems are certified to BS EN ISO 14001:2015, underlining our commitment to monitoring and improving our environmental performance
MRT has pioneered initiatives within the industry to monitor and reduce energy consumption. We use high efficiency melting, and are constantly seeking ways of improving our energy efficiency.
We have installed the latest dust extraction equipment to eliminate dust emissions from our fettling department, and oil mist extraction is fitted on all CNC machining centres.
100% of the dross from the melting process and swarf from machining are returned to our material suppliers for reprocessing, and casting trimmings are returned to the melt in-house. The raw material for our processes principally employs recycled material, and all of our products and packaging are fully recyclable.
Transport is minimised by containing most processes in-house, using a small network of local sub-contractors and suppliers, and making deliveries using our own efficient delivery fleet, and bulking freight onto national carriers to maximise the efficiency for long distance deliveries. We minimise packaging, and offer returnable packaging solutions to UK based customers.
By dealing with an environmentally responsible UK foundry you avoid the environmental costs of shipping components from far flung corners of the globe, and ensure that the footprint of your castings purchase is minimised.
MRT are also very conscious of our responsibilities to our employees, and place top priority on providing a safe and comfortable working environment which we are continually reviewing to ensure that we are applying industry best practice. Our H&S management systems are certified to OHSAS 18001:2007. MRT are members of the SHIFT Initiative, an HSE supported group managed by the Cast Metals Federation with the objective of reducing accidents in the UK Foundry Industry as a whole, and disseminating best practice the the UK foundry community.

Around 6 months ago, we took a hard look at how we use the data we have available to us at MRT Castings. We looked at everything from data being used by machines, data being created by machines all the way through to where data is being left on the cutting room floor and where data can potentially be corrupted or lost through human error.Read More
