MRT - Environmental Responsibility
MRT place a high priority on our environmental responsibilities, and strongly believe that we must work in partnership with our suppliers, customers and employees to minimise our combined impact on the environment and our global natural resources. We therefore operate a policy of continual improvement to provide a safe and comfortable working environment for our team, minimise waste in our processes, operate in the most efficient ways, and work with our customers to reduce the impact of logistics. We are pro-active in our compliance with all applicable environmental and health & safety regulations.
100% of the dross from the melting process and swarf from machining are returned to our material suppliers for reprocessing, and casting trimmings are returned to the melt in-house.
We minimise packaging, and offer returnable packaging solutions to UK based customers.
We have recently installed the latest dust extraction equipment to eliminate dust emissions from our fettling department.
MRT is a member of Target 2010, a foundry industry initiative to monitor and reduce energy consumption. We use high efficiency melting, and are constantly seeking ways of improving our energy efficiency.
Transport is minimised by containing most processes in-house, using a small network of local sub-contractors and suppliers, and making deliveries using our own efficient delivery fleet, and bulking freight onto national carriers to maximise the efficiency for long distance deliveries.
The raw material for our processes principally employs recycled material, and all of our products and packaging are fully recyclable.

MRT are also very conscious of our responsibilities to our employees, and place top priority on providing a safe and comfortable working environment which we are continually reviewing to ensure that we are applying industry best practice. MRT are members of the SHIFT Initiative, an HSE supported group managed by the Cast Metals Federation with the objective of reducing accidents in the UK Foundry Industry as a whole, and disseminating best practice the the UK foundry community.
