Solar Power for MRT's Machining and Finishing Operations
We’re all enjoying the summer weather right now, but at MRT we’re putting the sunshine to great use. We’ve installed 67kw of solar PV on the roof of Unit 4, our newly refurbished Finishing and Logistics building. And because that building is located alongside our main CNC machining facility, we’re able to use that power to run our CNC machines too.
Onsite renewable power generation is just one of the steps we’re taking to make MRT one of the most progressive and sustainable foundries in Europe. Diecasting is an energy intensive industry, but when it comes to combatting climate change we are determined to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem. By investing in equipment and buildings which maximise our energy efficiency, and by constantly striving to find more sustainable ways of operating, MRT are making great progress towards the ultimate goal of Net Zero.
We expect the 128 panels in this installation to generate 60,000 kWh per year of green electricity. Following the success of this project, we’re already reviewing opportunities for further onsite generation across the other buildings on our site in Andover.
