MRT Add A New 5-axis U500Xd2 To Their Brother Machining Centre Line-Up

Once again, MRT Castings have partnered with Brother and their UK agent, Whitehouse Machine Tools – a relationship that has spanned more than 25 years.

Over that time, the castings we produce have become ever more intricate and precision reliant. Fortunately, The Brother CNC machine tool range is more than a match for even the most complex of tasks and continues to stay well abreast of the new era of engineering.

Our machine shop is now home to 18 of the high efficiency, Japanese built machining centres, handling a variety of different specifications. Our latest addition is a U500Xd2-5AX universal compact machining centre. It features a five-axis tilting rotary table with a maximum jig area of 500mm diameter, and the increased travels of the Y and Z axes enable a wider range of multi-face machining. This is the ideal platform for tackling a suite of large aluminium gravity die castings which we are developing for electric powertrain housings.

The 28-tool magazine, and 16,000 rpm spindle provides lightning-fast tool changes and comprehensive machining capability for even the most complex of components. The machine supports hydraulic clamping, enabling robust and efficient work holding. The compact footprint and low energy consumption of the machine also contribute to achieving our ambitious sustainability targets

The range of castings lined up for the new U500Xd2 require the highest levels of precision, so we have integrated a Blum ZX-Speed tool setter and TC52 component probing system. The tooling suite itself is optimised by use of MRT’s Haimer Power Clamp shrink fit system.

This latest investment underlines MRT’s ongoing drive to employ the latest production technologies to widen the scope of our machining capabilities, making our UK headquarters a world-class facility for the machining of complex aluminium die castings.
