MRT Castings Wins Queen's Award
Leading UK aluminium die casting foundry, MRT Castings Ltd, have been honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade, in recognition of their outstanding export growth over the last three years.
MRT Castings Ltd started trading in 1947 and is based in Andover, Hampshire. MRT manufactures aluminium die castings and machined components for a wide range of industries. It specialises in complex components for high specification, low to medium volume markets, including medical, defence and specialist electronics sectors.
The company previously won a Queens Award for International Trade in 2016. MRT's current export markets cover Western Europe, Eastern Europe and North America. The company demonstrated an exceptional response to the challenges of COVID by scaling up its manufacturing capacity to produce sufficient kits of components for its global medical device customers to build over 500 critical-care ventilators per week. Overseas sales have grown by 437% over the past three years and the proportion of sales exported has increased to 85% of total sales.
Managing Director, Phil Rawnson, explained “A Queen’s Award for Enterprise is the ultimate accolade for a UK business, and to have won two just six years apart is testament to the relentless energy and enthusiasm of our team. To receive this honour during the company’s 75th anniversary year is particularly special.”
To support this growth, MRT recently moved into a purpose-built new foundry, and has invested heavily in world-class diecasting and high productivity CNC machining technology, to create one of the most technically advanced diecasting facilities in the UK.
